You learn something new everyday

Today for instance, I learned how to manually operate my business class seat/bed because the fancy buttons wouldn't work.

For the record, next time you fly with me and I pull the arm rest off or start feeling around under the foot rest, I know what I'm doing.  I promise.  :)

Unfortunate lesson of the week:

When encouraging Holmes to drive past HC, at high speed, through the mud, for the expressed purpose of splashing HC’s car; make sure HC’s window isn’t open first.

After 15 minutes of cleaning mud off the steering wheel, dash, windshield (inside), and HC himself; he was remarkably good natured about it though.

deep fried sandwich

I'm told it's a midwest thing, but tonight was the first time i've eaten a monte cristo.  It's a ham/cheese/turkey/cheese triple decker sandwich that's battered, deep fried, covered in powdered sugar and you dip it in raspberry jam.  And it comes with a side of fries.  Obesity might not be such a bad lifestyle after all....

You try it and I'll watch.

Val sent me this email with the subject line "you and me :)".
I'm not sure who she thinks is who, but I have a pretty good idea...

I ate a pregnant fish.

I've had lots of sushi in the past, but this was the first time I've eaten an entire fish, let alone one nearly bursting with eggs.  It was about 4 inches long and felt very strange to bite it's head off, but didn't actually taste too bad.  Needless to say, I only had one.

taxidermy

Apparently Holmes' dad found this eagle and tried to take care of it. It attacked him and now it's stuffed and on display in Holmes' house (one of the guys I work with in Korea) right between the vacuum cleaner and the TV.

Pancake (singular)

So this is why my apple pancake was $11 and cooked in an oven.

one sentence

So I'm trying to figure out how to set up wills for Val and myself but in reading one, I was completely befuddled, and duly impressed, by this sentence. Partly because it was confusing, and largely because it is a single sentence. Yes, only the one period.

If my _________________ (Spouse), ___________________________________, shall survive me, I give, devise and bequeath to my ___________ (Spouse) cash, securities or other property of my estate (undiminished by any estate, inheritance, succession, death or similar taxes) having a value equal to the maximum marital deduction as finally determined in my federal estate tax proceedings, less the aggregate amount of marital deductions, if any, allowed for such tax purposes by reason of property or interests in property passing or which have passed to my ______________________ (Spouse) otherwise than pursuant to the provisions of this Article; provided, however, the amount of this bequest shall be reduced by the amount, if any, needed to increase my taxable estate (for federal estate tax purposes) to the largest amount that, after allowing for the unified credit against the federal estate tax, and the state death tax credit against such tax (but only to the extent that the use of such state death tax credit does not increase the death tax payable to any state), will not result in a federal estate tax being imposed on my estate.

Oh and that was on page 2. Of 11. I'm seriously considering paying $40 for software that will make the will for me now.

snow day update

According to the newspaper, there was 26cm (~10 inches) of snow in Seoul on Monday. That’s the heaviest snowfall on record since they began in 1937.

Snow Day

We didn't make it into the fab today because Seoul got a bunch of snow this morning and there were no taxis available even if we were brave enough to try and take one. It was good times watching cars try and make it up the hill our hotel is on though. One of the guys took these videos as evidence.
